CASE STUDY | SXSW + EXPERIENTIAL OOH
CAPTAIN MORGAN + SXSW
Turning a Last-Minute Street Activation Into National Visibility.
SXSW moves fast. So did this campaign. Kween Cab prepared 10 Mainstreet Boardwalk pedicabs with Captain Morgan White Rum branding and had the full program ready in roughly 10 days for SXSW in Austin. The campaign combined free dedicated rides, VIP transportation, mobile branding, tablet advertising and social-media support.
The street campaign did not stay on the street. The Captain Morgan activation was also used in Guillermo Rodriguez's bit for Jimmy Kimmel Live during the show's Austin/SXSW run.

THE CHALLENGE
SXSW Does Not Give Brands the Luxury of Standing Still.
During SXSW, audiences move constantly between official programming, unofficial events, hotels, restaurants, nightlife, private parties and brand activations. The challenge is not simply to place media in one location. It is to stay visible while the city itself becomes the event footprint.
The Captain Morgan campaign also came together on a compressed timeline, which meant production, branding, fleet preparation and field execution had to move quickly without sacrificing the finished activation.

THE EXECUTION
A Moving Brand Platform Built in About 10 Days.
Kween Cab prepared 10 fully branded Mainstreet Boardwalk pedicabs for the Austin campaign and used them as both transportation and media. The vehicles delivered free dedicated rides and VIP rides while keeping Captain Morgan branding moving through the downtown SXSW environment.
Tablet advertising added another branded surface inside the ride experience, wheel covers expanded the visual footprint and the campaign was supported with social-media activity. Instead of relying on one fixed activation footprint, the brand moved with the audience.
What the Campaign Combined
- Branded mobile OOH moving through the SXSW street environment.
- Free sponsored rides that made the advertising useful to attendees.
- VIP transportation that extended the program into hospitality and guest movement.
- Wheel-cover branding and tablet advertising for additional campaign exposure.
- Social-media support tied to the street activation.
- Rapid production and deployment on an approximately 10-day timeline.

FROM STREET-LEVEL OOH TO NATIONAL TELEVISION
The Campaign Got a Second Life on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
One of the strongest proof points from the activation was that the branded pedicabs became part of Guillermo Rodriguez's comedy segment for Jimmy Kimmel Live while the show was broadcasting from Austin during SXSW. That gave the campaign a layer of national television exposure on top of the street-level audience it was originally built to reach.
WHY IT WORKED
The Media Was Useful, Visible and Already Where the Audience Was Going.
At SXSW, attention is fragmented and schedules change constantly. The pedicabs could carry the message while also moving people where they already needed to go. For Captain Morgan, one platform served as mobile billboard, sponsored transportation, VIP hospitality support, digital advertising surface and social-media content - with the Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance extending the campaign beyond its original street footprint.

BUILT FOR CITYWIDE EVENTS
The Case Study Is SXSW. The Use Case Is Bigger Than SXSW.
The same model applies to festivals, conventions, sports weekends and other citywide events where audiences move between multiple venues. Mobile OOH and sponsored rides can extend a campaign beyond the official footprint while giving the audience something useful in return.
A STRONG FIT FOR AGENCIES + EXPERIENTIAL TEAMS
Kween Cab can support agencies that already have the concept, sponsorship or event strategy but need a street-level operator for vehicles, branding, drivers, routing, sponsored rides, hospitality movement and execution. Captain Morgan shows how quickly that operational layer can be assembled when the event clock is already running.
From the shop to the street
Ten cabs. About ten days.
Captain Morgan went from printed panels to a street-ready SXSW fleet on a rapid timeline.
