AUSTIN CONVENTION + EVENT ADVERTISING

The Convention Center Is Closed. Austin Is Not.

Austin's convention center is in the middle of a major rebuild. The city is not taking four years off.

The Austin Convention Center closed in April 2025 and is expected to reopen for the 2029 spring festival season as a much larger facility. In the meantime, Austin's biggest audiences are still arriving for SXSW, Austin City Limits, Formula 1, MotoGP, citywide meetings, trade events, hotel programs, and a packed calendar at Palmer Events Center.

For street-level media, that shift actually makes one thing very clear: the audience is moving. Kween Cab helps brands move with it through pedicab advertising, sponsored rides, street teams, sampling, and mobile OOH built around the event instead of one building.

AUSTIN IS THE VENUE

When the Crowd Spreads Out, the Campaign Should Too.

SXSW proved the model in 2026. With the convention center offline, the event leaned into a city-as-a-venue approach, spreading programming across downtown clubhouses, hotels, theaters, music venues, and other spaces instead of relying on one headquarters building.

That is exactly the kind of environment where street-level media becomes more useful. Attendees are not trapped inside one hall. They are walking, waiting, meeting, changing venues, heading to dinners, chasing showcases, and trying to figure out how far the next thing really is.

A branded pedicab can be media, transportation, hospitality, and directional help at the same time. That is a lot more useful than hoping somebody notices another sign on the way past.

THE BIG AUSTIN EVENTS

This Market Does Not Need a Convention Center to Create a Crowd.

Austin's event calendar is the reason this page exists. The strongest opportunities are not all inside one venue - and that is the point.

SXSW

SXSW is the obvious one. In 2026, the conference and festivals generated nearly 500,000 total participation across the event, with 400+ brands activating, attendees from 76 countries, hundreds of sessions and screenings, and thousands of musicians moving through a distributed downtown footprint.

This is almost purpose-built for mobile OOH and sponsored rides. The audience is valuable, the brand competition is intense, and everybody is moving between multiple destinations all day and well into the night.

Austin City Limits Music Festival

ACL brings roughly 75,000 music fans per day to Zilker Park across two three-day weekends. The festival itself is only part of the opportunity: hotels, restaurants, nightlife, sponsor events, wristband pickup, aftershows, and downtown movement turn the surrounding city into a much larger campaign footprint.

Formula 1 United States Grand Prix

Formula 1 at Circuit of The Americas is one of the biggest recurring event weekends in the country. Recent U.S. Grand Prix weekends have drawn more than 430,000 fans, and Formula 1 has extended the Austin race through 2034.

MotoGP at COTA

MotoGP adds another international motorsports audience to the calendar and brings fans, manufacturers, sponsors, hospitality programs, and racing culture back to COTA each spring. For automotive, powersports, energy, technology, lifestyle, and performance brands, the event creates another major reason to build an Austin street-level campaign.

Palmer Events Center + the Active Trade Calendar

Palmer Events Center remains fully operational during the convention-center rebuild. The venue has 125,000 gross square feet, 70,000 square feet of exhibit space, and sits within three miles of roughly 11,000 hotel rooms.

Its current calendar includes events such as SaaStock USA, InnoTech Austin, Champs Trade Shows, Small Business Expo, Austin Record Convention, consumer markets, expos, and association events. These may not carry the same citywide scale as SXSW or Formula 1, but they create concentrated audiences with very clear exhibitor and sponsor targets.

SPONSORED RIDES IN AUSTIN

Useful Gets Remembered.

Austin's biggest events generate short trips all day long: hotel to meeting, meeting to activation, activation to dinner, downtown venue to downtown venue, or simply the last part of a walk nobody feels like finishing.

A sponsored ride turns that friction into the brand experience. The sponsor covers the ride. The attendee gets somewhere useful. The brand becomes the thing that made the day easier.

MOBILE OOH THAT FOLLOWS THE EVENT

The Audience Has a Schedule. Your Media Can Have One Too.

Wrapped and branded pedicabs can be positioned around the parts of the event footprint that matter most: hotels, event clusters, hospitality programs, downtown corridors, pickup areas, restaurants, nightlife, and approved routes connecting attendee destinations.

Campaign branding can include full or partial vehicle graphics, panels, wheel covers, driver apparel, QR codes, and other creative elements appropriate to the program. The point is not to circle Austin randomly. It is to put the media where the intended audience is actually moving.

COTA EXPERIENCE

We Already Know What a Big Austin Event Feels Like on the Ground.

COTA is one of Kween Cab's longest-running major-event environments. Since 2013, our teams have worked Formula 1, MotoGP, NASCAR, X Games, concerts, and other high-volume event days at the venue.

That experience matters because big events are rarely as simple as a route on a map. Crowd flow, closures, staging, security, pickup behavior, weather, and what happens when tens of thousands of people leave at once all affect the campaign. The buyer does not need to become an event-transport operator. That is our part of the job.

STREET TEAMS + SAMPLING

Give the Moving Media Something to Connect To.

Street teams can support the fleet with sampling, promotional distribution, QR engagement, ride pickup support, directions, lead-generation prompts, and event-specific messaging.

At events like SXSW, where activations compete block by block for attention, pairing people with moving media gives the campaign more ways to engage without relying on one fixed location.

FOR EXHIBITORS, SPONSORS + AGENCIES

Build Around the Audience, Not the Floor Plan.

Kween Cab can work directly with a brand or exhibitor, or plug into a larger experiential, media, sponsorship, hospitality, or event-production program.

The objective can be awareness, booth or activation traffic, sponsored transportation, hospitality, sampling, recruiting, QR engagement, product launch support, or simply staying visible after the audience leaves the room. Austin is especially well suited to that approach because so much of the event experience already happens outside traditional convention space.

PROOF OF PERFORMANCE

Show What Happened After the Fleet Hit the Street.

Depending on the campaign, reporting can include ride counts, route activity, GPS route data, photography, activation notes, and other proof-of-performance elements appropriate to the program. The point is that the work should produce more than a folder of nice photos.

THE CONVENTION CENTER IS COMING BACK BIGGER

Austin Is Building for 2029. The Audience Is Here Now.

The new Austin Convention Center is expected to reopen for the 2029 spring festival season with approximately 620,000 square feet of rentable space, up from about 365,000 square feet in the former facility. Until then, Austin is still producing major audiences - they are simply spread across more of the city.
